Villa Saia wants to take our sustainability commitment even further! We’re going to do this by supporting specially selected, local NGOs. We have chosen organisations whose actions have been assessed / can be checked in Gili Air. It was important for us to have this “grounded” and daily connections with them. So, we decided to launch our donation operation called “KASIH <> KASIH”, which means “to give” in the Indonesian language.
Villa Saia commitment
From September 2019, we commit ourselves to donate a 10,000 IDR per night that our guests book. But we did not want this donation to be only about a credit or debit card. Our wish is to make travellers conscious about their own action towards the local community by choosing Villa Saia. To turn their indirect commitment real, into something “tangible”.
Our guests will be part of it !
That’s why donations will be materialized during our clients’ check-in. After the usual formalities, tokens will be given and their number will correspond to the total nights booked (1 token = 10 000 IDR)
Two different boxes representing NGO’s will be offered:
1- Animals NGOs: Horses of Gili and Cats of Gilis
2- People and environents NGOs: Trash Hero Gili Air and Lombok Eco Int’l Connection ( LEIC)
Our guests will insert the tokens in the box they want according to their own passions and interests.Donations will be settled by the end of the month to each organisation. We will publish our first assessment in December 2019.
What organization will you be donating to?
Cats Of Gili is a charity project that organizes vet visits on the islands from time to time. A couple of times a year they hold important to spay/neuter clinics. Their aim is to neuter and spay cats, to help control their breeding. This amazing team hopes that in the future, they may have fewer cats on the islands, but a much healthier, happier cat population.
Horses of Gili: on the Gilis, transportation is done by foot, by bicycle or by horse car. Every single item on each island, be it a refrigerator or groceries, comes over by boat first, and then usually by horse and cart to its ultimate destination. Horses of Gili provide local support with good animal welfare for these working horses of the Gili Islands, Lombok, Indonesia.
LEIC – Lombok Eco International Connection initiative started as they realized that environmental education is compulsory at the primary level. It should start at home and continues at community and school. Their missions:
> To develop environmental education learning methods in an international perspective
> To organize a variety of creative educational programs in order to build environmental awareness for young people
To establish cooperation with other parties to develop environmental education learning methods in an international perspective
Trash Hero Gili Air mission is to bring communities together to clean and reduce waste. They pick up trash and motivate others to do the same. They also actively engage children through their multilingual kids’ programme, connecting environmental values with hands-on experience of the impact that trash has on the local and global environment. Finally, they create long-term programmes that help communities to reduce and better manage existing waste, and strategies that will prevent future waste.
This is something that the Villa Saia team have wanted to do for a while now. We hadn’t figured how to include you, our guests, in the process. Through this donation method, we hope that you will be able to feel more of a connection to these organizations.
